Adeosun replies Ezekwesili on economic policy criticism
The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, has replied to remarks by former Vice President of the World Bank, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s economic policies are archaic and opaque and that were hurting the poor masses.
Appearing on Thursday as a guest on Channels television programme, Sunrise, Mrs, Adeosun disagreed with Mrs Ezekwesili, saying although there were no quick fixes to the country’s economic challenges; the Buhari administration was handling the issues with a planned strategy.
She said: “I disagree with Mrs Ezekwesili, the present government has a planned economy and does not operate a command and control economic system as alleged by the former minister.
“There are no quick solutions to the current economic woes. We are going to pump N350 billion into the economy until we see growth. The job will be done painstakingly, and we will come out of it better,” she said.
She explained that one of the biggest challenges the government was facing was leakage of revenues in ministries departments and agencies. Adeosun said the government expects to see the expenditure of N64 billion on official travels in 2014 drop by about N13.88 billion.
According to her, such savings from official travels, which should ordinarily not be a major expense item for the government, would become available for investment in capital projects, such as roads, power, railways and public health facilities.
To reduce the high incidence of cash transactions in government business, the minister said deployment of Ministerial Debit Cards would soon debut to reduce stealing by government officials and to enable easy tracing of e-expenditures.
It would be recalled that Ezekwesili speaking as one of the guests at The Platform, a public policy forum in Abuja at the weekend, Ezekwesili who was a former Minister of Education, accused President Buhari of repeating his “command and control” approach to economic issues adopted during his first time as military Head of State in 1984.
Ezekwesili said inflation had spiralled during that period, amid huge loss of jobs and a massive dip in economic growth level.
According to her: “What did not work in 1984 cannot possibly be a solution in a global economy that’s much more integrated, The same ‘command and control’ approach towards economic issues has left the country’s economic indices worse off since he assumed office almost year ago.
“In over one year, the president is still holding to the premise that command and control is the only way out. In a year, we have lost the single digits inflation status we maintained in past administrations,” she said.
The former minister said the administration’s distortion of the foreign exchange system has left the poor it sought to protect worse off, while opaque economic policies were not only encouraging massive corruption, but abuse of power.

The problem is that each state has own laws and regulations which may work in an unwanted manner in terms of foreclosure guidelines.

Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. Today, I went to the beach front with my children. Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. Hey there, I think your website might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your blog in Chrome, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, terrific blog!

I’m not sure why but this blog is loading incredibly slow for me. Is anyone else having this issue or is it a problem on my end? I’ll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and everything. Nevertheless think of if you added some great graphics or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and videos, this site could definitely be one of the very best in its field. Very good blog!

My programmer is trying to convince me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the costs. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using Movable-type on various websites for about a year and am worried about switching to another platform. I have heard fantastic things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can transfer all my wordpress posts into it? Any help would be really appreciated!
