South Africa today marks the second anniversary when the guest house building of the church of Pastor TB Joshua’s Church, Synagogue of All Nations dramatically imploded; killing and trapping many congregants inside, majority of whom are South Africans. This happened on 12 September, 2014.

A total of 116 people were reportedly killed in the tragedy, including 85 South Africans, when the church collapsed in Lagos.

According to SABC News which wrote on the issue today, “on 12 September 2014, the guest house building of the church of the renowned pastor TB Joshua dramatically imploded; killing and trapping many congregants inside.

“The bodies of 74 South Africans were repatriated in November 2014. The remaining 11 bodies were repatriated in February 2015, following delays in identifying their remains.

“Nigerian coroner, Oyetade Komolafe, said in his ruling that the church had to be investigated for not obtaining the relevant approval before embarking on the construction of the building.

“Komolafe blamed poor construction work for the collapse and said weak foundations led to the disaster.

“He said the Synagogue Church of All Nations should be investigated and prosecuted by the relevant authorities over the construction job for not processing the necessary building permit”.

The case concerning the tragedy is still ongoing.
