Market records N26bn gain as petroleum marketing stocks lead losers

Reprieve came the way of investors on The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday after six-day of straight value depreciation as the Market capitalisation which was N9.010 trillion on Wednesday rose to N9.027, translating to a gain of N26 billion in Thursday trading activities.

All-Share Index of the Exchange which was 26,173.69 on Wednesday rose to 26,221.75 on Thursday even as the market recorded a total of 137.638 million shares valued at N990.949 million 3,283.00 deals.

GUARANTY recorded the highest gain of the day as it rose from N20.65 to N21.61 as it gained N0.96; INTBREW followed with a gain of N0.53 and closed at N19.53 from the opening value of N19.00;  ZENITHBANK  which opened the day trading at N14.21 per share closed at N14.7 having added N0.49 to its opening value. ACCESS recorded a modest gain of N0.15 and from its opening value of N5.15, it closed at N5.3 while AIRSERVICE completes top-five gainers’ table with a gain of N0.13 and from the value of N2.77 it began the day trading, it closed at N2.9    per share.

On the other side, TOTAL led the day major five decliners as it closed at N290.0 per share from its opening value of N315.88 as it was marked down by N25.88 per share. FO followed and from the opening value of N113.72, it closed at N104.05 as it was marked down by N9.67; MOBIL recorded a loss of N4.99 per share and from its opening value of N190, it closed Thursday trading at N185.01. Nigeria Breweries which opened at N143.5 closed at N142.0 per share as it recorded a loss of N1.5 per share while CADBURY which began the day trading at N12.95 closed at N11.7 as it was marked down by N1.25 per share.

The highest traded stock of the day was STERLNBANK which traded 27.695 million shares valued at N22.155 million; CHAMS traded 25.100 million shares valued at N12. 550 million; GUARANTY accounted for 16.948million shares at N366.652million; ACCESS traded 11.279  million shares at the value attach of N60.166 million  and ZENITHBANK was responsible for 9.703 million shares at N144.821 million.
