Equities continue on downward trend as investors record N18bn loss

Equities transaction on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) continued its free fall on Thursday as the All-Share Index (NSE ASI) and the Market Capitalization decreased by 0.21 per cent, while the Year-to-Date return stood at -10.62 per cent.

The All-Share Index closed at 25,599.79 against the previous close of 25,653.14 while Market Capitalization closed at ₦8.813 trillion against previous close of ₦8.831 trillion as investors made a loss of N18 billion  .

Volume traded increased by 10.87 per cent from 145.744 million to 161.593 million, while the total value of stock traded decreased by 12.23 per cent from ₦1.350 billion to ₦1.185 billion in 2,086 deals.

The Financial Services sector led the activity chart with 122.906 million shares exchanged for ₦0.82 billion. Conglomerates came next with 17.737 million shares traded for ₦0.013 billion, Consumer Goods, Healthcare, Oil And Gas sectors followed in that order on the activity chart.

Guaranty, Staco, Transcorp, Diamondbnk and Wemabank were the most active stocks by volume. NASCON, Honyflour, Maybaker, Fidelitybk and AIICO emerged the highest price gainers on the chart, while FO, Glaxosmith, CAP, Cadbury and Total topped the losers chart.
