Channels TV, Shoprite may be on top-10 brands to watch list — Top 50 Brands organisers

Organisers of the Top 50 Brands Nigeria said Shoprite and Channels television may be listed on the Top 10 Brands to watch in Nigeria, as plans are concluded for the 2017 edition of the Top 50 Brands Nigeria award.
According to the Chief Executive Officer, Top 50 Brands Nigeria, Taiwo Oluboyede, the Top 10 brands to watch are listed on the chart, adding that the brands need to enter into the TOM survey for qualification. TOM is a research firm with interest in brand survey.
He said, “eight of the 10 brands to watch this year are home grown, while two are foreign. Out of the 10 brands, five are ICT related with particular interest in retail. This is exciting because it shows the online retail sector is gaining ground aggressively in Nigeria as they do in developed economies.”
Top 50 Brands Nigeria is an annual event that rates and rewards brands that have been able to weather the storm and delivering on their brand promises.
Oluboyede explained that 25 of the 50 top brands are Nigerian grown brands, while the remaining 25 are international. He said the banking and finance sector had the largest entry with 10 brands, followed by the fast moving consumer good with eight and the oil and gas with six entries.
He said, “We have five conglomerates, while the oil and gas, food and beverages sectors had six entries each. The telecoms and media sectors have four each. Building and construction sector had two brands, while automobile, agriculture, retail have one each.”
Oluboyede also stated that the objective of the event was to get people to be consciously and proudly show support and express their ownership and deep connection with the brand Nigeria, thereby earning sufficient brand equity toward achieving top 20 nation brand status globally.
The event will serve as the avenue for the presentation of the #IAmBrandNigeria campaign, a clarion call for open endorsement of the Nigeria brand where exceptional individuals will be celebrated, individuals who through resilience, tenacity and their entrepreneurial skill of making things happen against all odds have been able to achieve success and serve as source of inspiration to the teeming youthful population.”
