Ondo First Lady leads Nigeria’s team to AWA 2018
The wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has led a delegation of women from Nigeria to the 2nd edition of the African Women in Agriculture (AWA) Summit in Marrakech, Morocco.
On the day-one of the event which focused on creating a network of stakeholders most especially among women in agriculture in rural areas and underserved communities and had the theme: ‘Empowering Women in Agriculture, Generating Sustainable Growth, Bridging the Gender Gap’, Mrs. Akeredolu underscored the need to facilitate capacity building, exposure and business networking for women.
The highpoint of the event was the official opening of the STEAN Art Gallery by Her Excellency, Mrs. Akeredolu just as she savoured the rich cultural display of splash to canvass paintings, flower bouquet and imaginary arts on display by the artist who is also the founder the Art Gallery, Lisetto Kweno, a Cameroonian living in Morocco.
Also on the delegation was Believe Africa Team, an initiative from a Cameroonian. Others include the Malian Delegation, Togoloese Delegation, Gambian Delegation, Cameroon Delegation, Niger Delegation as well as representatives from the host country, Morocco.
Awa is an initiative that not only covers areas of farming, livestock breeding and agro-forestry, it also strives for the continuous promotion of Africa’s socio-economic progress through the enhancement of the profile of women in agriculture for the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
