FG orders closure of all land borders
Ahead of the March 9, 2019 gubernatorial and states houses of assembly elections in the country, the Federal Government has ordered the closure of all land borders to the country.
Minister of Interior, Lt. General AB Dambazau gave the directive saying that the borders will be closed from Friday and reopened on Sunday.
A statement by the Comptroller General of Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede said, “Further to the Gubernatorial/States Assembly elections taking place on Saturday 9th March 2019, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Lt. General Abdurahman Bello Dambazau has directed the closure of all Nigerian Land borders with effect from 12 noon of Friday 8 March to 12 noon of Sunday 10th March 2019.
“This is to restrict movement across the borders during the election days. “The public is to take note and ensure compliance.”
