Atiku, PDP file petition against Buhari’s victory

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just conducted Nigeria’s presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has finally filed petition against the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari who was declared winner of the February 23 poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Atiku and his party are challenging the election of Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on the grounds of alleged massive rigging, malpractices and non compliance substantially with the electoral laws.

In the petition filed Monday night, Atiku and the PDP are praying that they be declared winner of the February 23 presidential election.

In the alternative, the two petitioners prayed the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) to nullify the poll and order a fresh election that will be conducted in line with provisions of the electoral laws.

It was gathered that the filing process at the Court of Appeal, was done by a team of lawyers led by Chris Uche.

Atiku has claimed that the poll was rigged to favour president Buhari.

It could be recalled that a court had recently approved the PDP’s application to be allowed access to materials used for the election.

The PDP had in a statement claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had refused access despite the court order.

President Buhari’s legal team led by Wole Olanipekun had also made a similar request in the court.
