 Hijrah 1441 AH: Osun declares Friday public holiday

 

The Osun Government on Thursday declared Friday, Aug. 30, as a public holiday to commemorate the Islamic New Year, Hijra 1441 AH.

The state government made the announcement in Osogbo in a statement signed by Mr Adebisi Obawale, a Supervisor in the state Ministry of Home Affairs.

While felicitating with Muslims on the ocassion of the Islamic New Year,  government enjoined all Muslims to use the occasion to pray for the state’s economic prosperity, stability, peace and continuation of good governance.

The government also advised the people to use the New Islamic Year for their spiritual development.

“As we enter the Islamic New Year, we must not only celebrate, but also strive, as part of what Allah commands us, to internalise the lessons and essence of the Hijrah as exemplified by uncommon patience and endurance of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in the face of hardship, ” he said.

The statement also urged residents in the state to continue living harmoniously and peacefully with religious tolerance and understanding.

“The government urges all Muslims  and people of different faiths to imbibe the lessons of the Hijrah by leaving sinful and malfeasance practices for a new life and conduct that will add value to the state and the country at large,” the statement added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Islamic New Year, ‘Hijrah 1441 AH’, will officially begin on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019
