World Obesity Day: Expert advises regular exercise
Dr Osazuwa Ehis, a Benin-based medical practitioner has advised regular exercise for obese persons to live a healthy life.
Ehis disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Benin.
He defined exercise as any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health and wellness.
He said physical activity or exercise could improve the health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease.
He added that “physical activities and exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits.
“Most importantly, regular activities can improve your quality of life.
“Exercising regularly can reduce obesity gradually and prolong an individual’s life.
“It also improves both the strength and the efficiency of your cardiovascular system to get the oxygen and nutrients to your muscles”.
“When your cardiovascular system works better everything seems easier and you have more energy for the fun stuff in life”,he said.
He said obese persons are prone to deadly diseases that could eventually lead to death.
He advised the general public to eat proteins food and cut down on carbohydrates.(NAN)
