Minister explains why coronavirus corpses can’t be claimed for burial

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said that coronavirus corpses cannot be claimed for burial as they can only be handled by the Ministry of Health because they are contagious.

The minister made this clarification while speaking at a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) forum in Abuja where he gave an update on the activities of the presidential task force on Covid-19 which he is a member.

The Minister who claimed that there was no medicine for the virus yet, further disclosed that the pandemic is capable of unleashing a terribly overwhelming effect on the healthcare system and destroy the economy.

“Coronavirus is very dangerous and contagious; there is no medicine for it yet and it is not just capable of killing, overwhelming healthcare system, it will destroy the economy.

“In some countries, they are putting dead bodies in big refrigerators, because the morgues have filled up.

“Nigerians should not forget that these are not the type of corpses that can be claimed for burial because it must be handled by the ministry of health,” the minister said.

The minister thanked Nigerians for supporting the federal government in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also called for cooperation and enjoined Nigerians to keep safe by taking preventive measures with a serious fist.

He  said that by keeping basic hygiene and maintaining social distancing, in few weeks Nigeria will overcome the challenges and threat posed against the country by the pandemic.
