COVID-19 Spread: FG may lockdown 18 local government areas

The federal Government of Nigerian may initiate total lockdown in 18 local government areas across the country over rising cases of COVID-19 in the country as the 18 of them said to be responsible for about 60 per cent of the pandemic cases in the country.
The 18 local government areas in Nigeria account for 60 per cent of COVID-19 cases and those places have to be locked down to contain the spread of the pandemic in the country, the Nigerian Government has said.
Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Federal Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, gave the indication while speaking with journalists after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House on the situation.
According to the SGF, Nigeria has not reached its peak and with 39 molecular labs, the number of infections will continue to rise.
He asked all local authorities including religious and traditional leaders to ensure compliance with non-pharmaceutical interventions.
The Taskforce has disclosed that the next line of action regarding the easing of lockdown will be disclosed on (tomorrow) Tuesday.
Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad disclosed in a tweet.“Today is the last day of Nigeria’s phase II of the eased lockdown, members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefed and submitted their recommendations to the President for approval, the next lines of action will be announced tomorrow, SGF Boss Mustapha discloses.” .
Recall that the task force had met with Buhari to brief him on updates of the committee in containing the spread of COVID-19.
Buhari had on June 1, lifted the ban on religious gathering across Nigeria but said schools should remain closed.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 30, will make it one month since Buhari made the decision.
