COVID-19: Akeredolu says he now tests negative

• Governor says Ondo stressed beyond limit

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu announced on Monday that he is now tested negative to deadly Coronavirus Ondo, stressing that the state is now stressed beyond limits as it has run out of bed spaces at its Infectious Disease Hospital in Akure.
Besides bed spaces, it said medical equipment and personnel put in place to combat coronavirus pandemic have been stressed beyond limit, adding that the obvious implication of its current situation was that ‘prevention is the best way to reduce pressure on cure.’
Speaking in a state-wide broadcast on Monday, he used the occasion to announce that he has tested negative to COVID-19.
Akeredolu said 20 persons have died due to COVID-19 complications while over 472 persons have tested positive to the infection.
He stated that the resounding message was that ‘COVID-19 is deadly, willing and able to wreak the greatest havoc on individuals and families, indeed our entire society, if permitted.’
The Ondo Governor urged political parties, participating in the oncoming elections to adhere strictly to INEC guidelines in order to assure safety and good health for our people.
Akeredolu advised them to restrict themselves to relevant campaign issues, and not overheat the polity with desperate utterances, publications and actions capable of unimaginable effect.
He said he has accepted the resignation of Mr. Ifedayo Abegunde as Secretary to the State Government and announced Mr. Tayo Oluseye Oluwatuyi as his replacement.
Oluwatuyi until his elevation was the Commissioner for Natural Resources.
The Governor also nominated Mr. Idowu Otetubi, a chartered accountant and politician from Akure as State Commissioner.
According to him, “Let me use this opportunity to passionately appeal to all our people to please take the fight against COVID-19 seriously. The menace of this deadly virus is expanding in exponential measure. It is in fact putting massive pressure on the treatment facilities of Government. I have just been briefed that between Saturday July the 4th and Sunday July the 5th a total of 62 new cases were recorded.
“My dear people, in spite of the vicissitude of the times, I wish tell you that I am unshaken in my conviction and faith in our ability to overcome this pandermic. I urge us all to act responsibly, deepen our prayers for divine intervention and perfect healing for our state.”
