N20bn fine against DSS: Verdict symbolises triumph of light, truth ― Banji Akintoye

The umbrella body of the Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), Friday applauded the Verdict of Oyo State High Court delivered by Justice Ladiran Akintola which awarded the sum of N20 billion against the Directorate of State Services (DSS) for invading the home of Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, fondly called Sunday Igboho, on July 1st, 2021, describing it as the triumph of light and truth over gladiators of illegalities.

Ilana Omo Oodua, led by a renowned historian, Prof. Banji Akintoye, said this in a statement made available to newsmen by its Communications Secretary, Mr Maxwell Adeleye, in reaction to the court verdict, expressing appreciation to the judge for re-affirming in the verdict that self-determination was one of the fundamental human rights of the citizens that cannot be subjugated.

“We thank the Judiciary for re-affirming that self-determination is one of the fundamental human rights of the citizens that cannot be subjugated.

“Our position is that this verdict symbolises the triumph of light and truth over darkness. Ighoho represents the light and truth, while the Nigerian state stands for Illegalities,” IOO said.

The group urged the Federal Government, through the DSS, to pay the fine awarded in favour of Igboho as ordered by the court with immediate effect, in the interest of peace.

“Our position now is that the Nigerian government should be honourable by respecting the verdict of a court of competent jurisdiction. The N20billion damages ordered by the court to be paid to Ighoho by the DSS should be paid with immediate effect in the interest of peace,” the group said.
