Expert advocates compulsory entrepreneurship skills in schools

An Education expert, Mr Solihu Akewugberu, has advocated for the introduction of compulsory entrepreneurship skills in all schools.

Akewugberu, the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Association of Modern Islamic Schools (AMIS), made the call on Sunday in Ilorin during the maiden Graduation Ceremony of Senior Secondary School Students of Al-Ikhlas Schools, llorin.

The spokesman, also a school proprietor, said this would deepen national economic growth and make citizens self reliant.

He said that there was need for schools to include entrepreneurship skills subject in their school curriculum to enable the students learn other things apart from Western education.

“Education of now days had gone beyond sitting down in the four corners of the classroom and that is why government introduced the method of combining entrepreneurial skill with western knowledge.

“Science students are to major in data processing like marketing, web designs and so on, also agriculture, in which modernised method of farming would be learnt.

“Art students can also specialise in different areas like tailoring, tie and dye, home management, food and nutrition and so on,” he said.

The expert noted that all the skills are profitable and could help to provide job opportunities for them and other people in the future.

Alhaji Tajudeen Bolaji Al-Ikhlas, the Proprietor of the school, said that the school had been given the approval to write Junior external examination, WAEC and NECO.

The proprietor said that the school has many plans towards developing the academic standard of the students in terms of building library and more infrastructure.

Mr Yusuf AbdulGafar, one of the granduants, commended the school and appreciated the efforts of the teachers in instilling useful knowledge in the students.

AbdulGafar who is also the Headboy of the school, said that some of the unique attributes of the school include intelligence, discipline, decency and moral values.
