Osun State’s Gov. Oyetola approves bursary for indigent students

Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has approved payment of bursary to indigent students in the state’s tertiary institutions.

The state’s deputy governor, Mr Benedict Alabi, said this at an award presentation and endorsement of Oyetola’s second term candidature by the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) on Wednesday in Osogbo.

Alabu said that Gov. Oyetola’s administration held students in high esteem and would continue to make them significant players in government’s inclusive and participatory governance.

He applauded the students for the recognition accorded to Oyetola’s administration on the modest achievements made since assumption of office.

Then deputy governor described education as the bedrock of socio-economic development of any society, noting that the sector had witnessed tremendous achievements in the last three years.

“Our government holds students in high esteem and we will always do everything in our powers to prioritise their interests; make them significant players in our inclusive and participatory governance.

“Recently, we approved payment of bursaries to indigent students in our tertiary institutions to assist them.

“Very soon, beneficiaries will begin to receive alerts. We have been consistent in responding to emergencies affecting students of the state across the country,’’ the deputy governor said.

In his remarks, Mr Olalere Benedict, NAPS National President said that the endorsement was aimed at reciprocating the governor’s good gestures toward the welfare and wellbeing of the citizens, particularly students.

Benedict noted that the governor had been proactive in matters relating to youths and students in the state.

Earlier, Mr Kehinde Ayantunji, Senior Special Assistant on Students Affairs and Social Mobilisation to the governor said that the students resolved to honour Gov. Oyetola as part of efforts to reciprocate his good works.
