CITN set to celebrate 40 years in existence

The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CITN) has concluded arrangements to celebrate the forty years of its existence as a foremost Professional Tax Institute in Nigeria.

The President of the Institute, Mr Adesina Adedayo made this known during a Media Break in commemoration of the Institute’s 40th anniversary in Lagos.

He expressed his profound appreciation to the Nigerian Media, Founders of the Institute, the Institute’s revered Past Presidents, Council and collectively members of the Institute for their immense support, resilience and contribution over the years.

He further appreciated the 40th anniversary committee members, under the chairmanship of a revered Past President, Mr. Foluso Fasoto who has been working tirelessly for the success of the celebration.

According to him, the Nigerian Media is an integral part of whatever success the Institute would be highlighting in the course of its 40th anniversary celebrations.

He said, “I have no doubt that our partnership will be strengthened as CITN singular focus over the next six years is the development of the Tax profession.

“Therefore, I would like to use this medium to seek your support for media coverage of all the activities commencing on Friday, January 28, 2022 through Saturday, February 5, 2022.

The CITN President explained that the Institute which started on February 4, 1982 as Association of Tax Administrators and Practitioners, thereafter metamorphosed to Nigeria Institute of Taxation and became chartered by Decree No. 76 of 1992(now Act. No. 76,CAP C10, LFN 2004) as the foremost Institute recognized by law to regulate the taxation profession in Nigeria.

According to him, from that period till date, the Institute has grown in leaps and bounds, hence the reason for this celebration.

“Noteworthy is the continuous effort of our founding fathers in conceptualizing the birth of the Institute, the sustenance of its vision and mission and most importantly the governance structure that has been able to manage the challenges, success and succession in leadership.

“CITN has continued to keep its focus on the training, development and certification of members of the profession to evidence their competency and character.

“CITN has also ensured that it is living up to its duty to continually enlighten and educate the public and stakeholders alike both through members of the profession, district societies and the Institute,” he said.

Mr Foluso Fasoto, Chairman, CITN 40th Anniversary Planning Committee, outlined the different activities to mark the Institute’s anniversary.

According to him, as an Institute established over thirty-nine years ago, precisely on Thursday, February 4, 1982, it is exceptionally instructive to put in proper perspective the journey to its present position as a professional Institute. In this context, Council deemed it fit to put the necessary machinery in place to celebrate the forty years of its existence as a foremost Professional Tax Institute.
