Shehu Sani mocks Buhari over Nigeria’s exit from AFCON
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has mocked President Muhammadu Buhari over the Super Eagles exit from the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.
Reacting to the exit on his Twitter handle on Monday, the former Kaduna Central Senator claimed that President Buhari was responsible for Nigeria’s loss to Tunisia on Sunday night.
Sani argued that the Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to fly after Buhari held a video conference with the team shortly before the match.
The PDP chieftain opined that Buhari’s only miracle is his rice pyramid which was unveiled in Abuja last week.
The Super Eagles had not lost any match at the AFCON 2021 tournament prior to the round of 16 games against Tunisia on Sunday.
However, President Buhari held a video call with the players and coaches on Sunday where he urged the Super Eagles to continue their superb display at the tournament.
Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina, who made this disclosure in a statement on Sunday said the Nigerian leader appealed to the team not to relent in their effort to win the Nations Cup during a chat with representatives of the team via video conference.
He said the President spoke with Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen, Captain Ahmed Musa, President of Nigerian Football Federation Amaju Pinnick, and Nigerian Ambassador to Cameroon, Gen Abayomi Olonisakin (retd).
But the Super Eagles on Sunday were knocked out of the ongoing AFCON with a second-half goal from Youseff Msakni for Tunisia.
After the loss, many Nigerians have taken to social media including Sani to blame Buhari’s video call for the loss.
“He toucheth the pigeon, it refused to fly. He talketh to the Eagle, it refused to fly. Oh yea brethren, thy King in Egypt hath no miracles but pyramids,” he tweeted.
