‘Wrongly interpreted’ – Peter Obi clears air on Peter Odili being his classmate

The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to reports of him saying former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili, was his classmate at Christ the King College (CKC) in Onitsha.

Obi said his comment on Odili at a function in Port Harcourt was misinterpreted.

He was reported to have made the comment about Odili at the commissioning of a flyover in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Friday.

Obi was urging people of Rivers State to vote for him in the February presidential election when he made the comment.

However, the LP presidential candidate explained that he and Odili were alumni of the school, and not classmates.

In a series of tweets, Obi said he had described the former governor as a great footballer at CKC.

According to Obi: “My remarks when I visited Port Harcourt have been wrongly interpreted by some people.

“The former Governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odili and I, are among other prominent Nigerians that schooled in Christ the King College (CKC) Onitsha, and we remain alumni of the school.

“I did not say that former Governor Odili was my classmate, rather I said that he was a great footballer in my school, and we all cherished and had good memories of his football exploits when we got into the school.

“I was in CKC from 1973 to 1978 and Dr Peter Odili had graduated before I got into the school.”
