UK court sentences Senator Ike Ekweremadu to 10 years for organ trafficking plot

• wife bags four years six months imprisonment,
• their doctor bags 10 years, his practice lisence suspended

UK court has sentenced former Deputy Senate President of Nigeria Ike Ekweremadu to nine years eight months in prison for organ trafficking plot.

The court also sentenced his wife Beatrice to four years six months while the doctor who helped them, d Dr Obinna Obeta gets 10 years jail terms and his medical license suspended..

This after the court convicted Ekweremadu and his wife Obeta for March 2022 on the accusation of organ-trafficking plot as they were said to have brought one 21-year-old man to the UK from Lagos.

Senator Ike Ekweremadu, 60, and wife Beatrice, 56, and Dr Obinna Obeta, 50, were sentenced because they were said to have conspired to harvest theman’s kidney, which is said to be the first case under modern slavery laws.

Authorities said the victim who was a street trader for Lagos go UK last year to provide his kidney for £80,000 private transplant for the Royal Free Hospital in London.
