Tribunal adjourns until Thursday at Obi’s request
The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), on Wednesday, adjourned the hearing to Thursday on the request of the presidential candidate of the Labour party, Peter Obi.
The presiding Justice of the five-man panel, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani gave the adjournment at the instance of the petitioner.
At the resumption of hearing on Wednesday, counsel for the petitioner, Awa Kalu,SAN told the court that the initial plans of Obi’s legal team was to present documents to the court today (Wednesday) but were challenged by a sudden illness of a key staff at the secretariat.
For this reason, the senior lawyer said, “we are constrained to pray for an adjournment till tomorrow.”
Responding counsel for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respondents, Abubakar Mahmoud, Wole Olanikpekun and lateef Fagbemi, all Senior Advocate of Nigeria did not oppose the application.
They however said since the request was at an instance of the petitioner the time wasted would be added to the petitioners’
Justice Tsammani granted the prayer and consequently adjourned to Thursday for the continuation of the hearing.
