NUJ urges FG to roll out palliative measures to cushion effects of fuel subsidy removal

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano Council, has called on the Federal Government to put in place palliative measures to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy.

NUJ made the appeal during its council’s monthly congress meeting in Kano.

In a communique issued at the end of the congress, the NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim and Secretary, Abba Mirtala, emphasised the need for the government and other stakeholders to promptly devise strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of the fuel subsidy withdrawal on the general public.

Considering the economic and social devastation faced by Nigerians, the union stressed the importance of providing relief measures that would offer respite to the populace.

The NUJ commended the recent actions taken by the newly established mobile courts, which handed down prison sentences without the option of fines to phone robbers.

As the Eid-el-Kabir celebration approaches, the NUJ called for vigilance in curbing excesses and immoral activities among youths in gala centers.
