Why Guinness World Record awarded Baci 93 hours despite cooking for 100 hours

  • this is the best news ever, says Hilda Baci

Almost four weeks after cooking for 100 hours to break the 87 hours, 45 minutes world’s longest cooking record set by India’s Lata Tondon, Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has officially been awarded the record for the World’s Longest Cooking Marathon by an Individual, with a record time of 93 Hours, 11 minutes.

According to the Guinness World Record, her 100-hour cooking marathon was not awarded because she took extra breaks early on in the race, rather than taking the accepted five minutes rest break given every hour.

“As with all longest marathon records, the participant is permitted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks can be accumulated if not taken. They were the only times Hilda could use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt,” GWR said in a statement.

Whether Hilda Baci gets the 100-hour record or not, it does not take away the fact that she has indeed put Nigerian cuisine and inspired Young African women to chase their dreams with her world record.

Since her record-breaking attempt became viral, many chefs across Africa have been making attempts to beat her record, with Chef Damilola Adeparusi, a 300-level student of the Federal University Oye Ekiti, currently showing the world what she has as she has cooked for over 100 hours already with the aim to break Hilda’s records.

Although there are no applications to show that Damilola indeed received approval to break the record, her attempt is still admirable as Hilda also commended her for her boldness and unwavering spirit.

“The beauty of dreams is that they are unique to each individual. Dami, your boldness to take on a cooking challenge shows that passion knows no limits. Embrace the journey, learn from every experience, and inspire others with your unwavering spirit. #DreamsUnleashed,” Hilda tweeted.

Weeks after setting a new Guinness World Record, Hilda has shown true sportsmanship, and it seems like it’s just the beginning of greater things for her.

Meanwhile, Hilda Baci is over the moon following her declaration as the Guinness World Record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, calling it the best news ever.

“This is the best news ever omg omg omg thank you so much,” the Nigerian chef wrote on her official Twitter handle immediately after the announcement by the GWR.
