Keep your palliatives, return our subsidy, NLC tells Tinubu in Kano protest

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday staged a peaceful possession against the Federal government’s removal of fuel subsidy in Kano.

The protesters include the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and other affiliate unions Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), the National Association of Textile and Garment (NATG), Civil society groups and students union vehemently rejected government palliatives and called for urgent return of subsidy on petroleum products.

The protestants who converged as early as 7:00 am at the state library along Ahmadu Bello Way, matched down in their hundreds to the Government house, to deliver a protest letter to the state government for onward delivery to the Federal government.

Flagging several anti-government placards with inscriptions like return our subsidy, your palliative is fake, your policies are anti-masses, also witnessed several union leaders who spoke against president Tinubu’s administrative policies.

Prior to the advancement of the possession to government house, representative of NLC president, Dr. Muntaka Yusahu accused president Tinubu of operating under the influence International Monetary Funds (IMF) thereby crippling the economy of the nation.

Dr. Yusahu, who lamented poor income of workers, hike in tuition fee and high cost of living in the country as a result of removal of fuel subsidy, kicked against what he described as imperialism agenda in Nigeria.

While presenting the labour message to Kano State Government, Kano state chairman of NLC, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa raised concern over Federal government failure to fulfil his campaign promises.

Inuwa lamented the impact of the subsidy removal is biting harder in Kano because of the population, calling for urgent measures to ease the pains.

“We are on peaceful protest as directed by the mother body of the union to register the displeasure of Nigerians on anti-masses policies of the federal government especially the removal of fuel subsidy,” Inuwa said.

The president removed the fuel subsidy the very day he was swore in – a decision many said is inflicting pains on them and being tagged anti people.

Addressing the multi-crowd at the entrance of the government, the Secretary to the state Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi said the state government has no industrious disharmony with the labour just as he pledged to pursue the goals and welfare of workers within the limited resources.

While applauding the peaceful conduct in their protest, he promised onward delivery of their protest message to the federal government.
