Speaker Abbas: Falcons, Lookman, Nnadozie’s CAF Awards boost Nigeria’s global profile
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has hailed Nigeria’s achievements at the 2024 CAF Awards, calling it a significant boost to the country’s international profile.
In a congratulatory message signed by his special adviser on media and publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker noted that sports and entertainment continue to unite Nigerians across ethnic and religious lines.
He expressed excitement over Super Eagles striker Ademola Lookman’s selection as African Footballer of the Year, the Super Falcons’ retention of the Women’s National Team of the Year award, and Chiamaka Nnadozie’s successful defence of her Goalkeeper of the Year title, highlighting the joy these victories have brought to Nigerians across the country.
Speaker Abbas further emphasized that Nigeria’s dominance in African football has been solidified by Lookman’s win, following in the footsteps of Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen, who won the award the previous year.
With Nigerians having won the African Player of the Year a record seven times, the Speaker pointed out that the country continues to produce stars in various fields, defying numerous challenges.
He also called for increased investment in Nigerian youth, noting that the country is a major talent hub in sports, entertainment, science, and other areas.
While congratulating the awardees, Speaker Abbas urged them to remain exemplary ambassadors of Nigeria and continue to elevate the country’s image globally.
