Northern stakeholders end review, demand changes to Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills
Northern stakeholders, under the aegis of the League of Northern Democrats (LND), have called for amendments to President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills.
The bills, currently under review in the National Assembly, have sparked heated debates nationwide, with many governors and leaders from the North expressing strong opposition.
The tax reform bills have been criticized for favouring Lagos State and other narrow interests at the expense of the North. The bills were rejected by the National Economic Council (NEC), led by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Meanwhile, the LND, led by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has presented a report highlighting socio-cultural and governance concerns that require attention.
Shekarau admitted that the proposed tax reform bills present an opportunity to advance Nigeria’s economic stability while addressing constitutional, socio-cultural, and governance concerns. However, he urged for comprehensive amendments to ensure inclusivity, national cohesion, and equitable resource distribution.
The LND’s report was presented by Senator Bala ibn Na’Allah.
