Navy committed to ensuring oil production increase to 3mb/d by December 2025
The Nigerian Navy says it is committed towards ensuring that the nation’s daily crude oil production increases from 1.8 million barrels to 3 million barrels by December, 2025 in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking, at the Flag-off ceremony of Operation Delta Sanity II in Port Harcourt, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla said the directive of the president must be achieved.
According to him, since the launch of Operation Delta Sanity, it has curbed crude oil theft, illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism, stressing that the nation’s daily crude oil production has increased from 1.4 million barrels to 1.8 million barrels per day.
“It is a task that the President himself has directed to make sure we achieve and if you look at where we were last year, when we launched this operation, about 1.4 we have gone to 1.8,” he said.
The Chief of the Naval Staff also said that plans are underway to achieve and surpass the daily production of 3 million barrels.
“I believe that with all the assets that we are bringing on board, particularly our new assets, arms, surveillance, attack drones, helicopters and different other assets that we are bringing on board including increased intelligence sharing with other agencies, we are definitely going to achieve that target and surpass it,” he added.
He commended President, Bola Tinubu for his support to the Navy, and vowed to ensure that the waterways are safe.
Also speaking, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral, Saheed Akinwande said, that Operation Delta Sanity which was launched in January has contributed significantly towards checking the menace of crude oil theft.
He revealed that 315 suspects had been arrested with dug-out pits and storage tanks deactivated within the period.
“Since its inception, a total of 315 suspects have been arrested while 468 illegal refining sites were deactivated in accordance with extant regulations. Furthermore, an estimated quantity of 6.5 million Litres of Stolen Crude and 7 million litres of illegally refined AGO were seized and appropriately handled.”
“Also, a total of 361 wooden boats, 1107 dug-out pits and 279 storage tanks were deactivated while 26 Vessels were arrested.
On his part, the special guest of honour, Sen. Heineken Lokpobori who flagged off Operation Delta Sanity II, commended the Navy for ensuring the safety of the nation’s waterways and called for support for the Navy to boost the nation’s daily crude oil production.
“The Navy needs the support of other security agencies including civilian security and contractors. We also need traditional rulers, we also need youth groups, we need all stakeholders to support the Navy and indeed the Armed Forces to be able to achieve that,” he said.
The event was attended by heads of security agencies, stakeholders in the maritime sector, officials of the Rivers State Government, and businessmen among others.
