Hijra: Kano declares Wednesday work-free

The Kano State Government has declared Wednesday, July 19, work-free to mark the beginning of the 1445 Islamic (Hijrah) New Year.

This was contained in a statement issued by Baba Dantiye, the Commissioner for Information, on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Tuesday.

The governor, who congratulated Muslims globally on the new Islamic year, charged civil servants and other people in Kano to pray for peace and tranquillity as well as the economic development of the state and Nigeria at large.

Yusuf also called on the people to live their lives based on the teachings of Islam.

He urged them to practise the virtues of kindness, love, and tolerance as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
